The origins of the Pilgrim back to the fifteenth century, when Tossa de Mar was hit by plague invading Europe. Its inhabitants are entrusted to Saint Sebastian. They promised that if they undid it, send an annual pilgrimage to the shrine dedicated to his name in Santa Coloma de Farners. A few days later, the epidemic subsided. Since then the town has kept its word.
Each year, The Pilgrim, dressed in a cape decorated with seashells, travels on foot and in silence the 40 km between the two populations. The ritual begins at 7 am with the church full to celebrate the Mass of the Song. Not until this moment that is given to know the identity of the Pilgrim, which changes every year. Accompanied by the president and local authorities, the Pilgrim goes to the Chapel of the Mare de Deu dels Socors, patron saint of fishermen. There the mayor gives a coin to pay a Mass in Santa Coloma de Farners.
It is at this point begins the pilgrimage, followed by hundreds of people. At dusk, the convoy arrives at Santa Coloma de Farners, where it is received with solemnity. In the Chapel of Saint Sebastian Goigs sing in honor of the martyr and the next morning, after the mass return. To reach compliance Tossa held the vote with a solemn procession crowded and silent, very impressive, around the walls lit by torches.
